The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
I love this. It's so simple. Go get wisdom. And then get insight on that piece of wisdom. That's the beginning of wisdom.
The beginning of wisdom isn't "get your act together, figure out your issues, and then seek wisdom."
It's go get wisdom. Now. Go. Do what you need to do to get wisdom.
So what do I need to do to get wisdom?
Fear and seek the Lord.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all knowledge. and He gives knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and insight from his mouth. (Proverbs 1:7, 2:6)
Fear the Lord. Seek him. That's what you do.
And because of Jesus' life and death and resurrection we don't have to get ourselves together first. We don't, because when we believe, we are seen as perfect. We are made new. We are wiped clean.
How amazing is that?!
Wisdom comes from God. Insight comes from God. Knowledge and understanding come from God.
But too often I go to my husband or my friends for wisdom, insight, knowledge and understanding before, or instead of, going to God. Thankfully they usually send me to God. But how different would my life be if I just went to God first? That's how it's supposed to be. That's God's good and perfect design. It's when we start operating outside of the boundaries God put in place for our protection that things tend to get chaotic. And I don't like chaos.
So starting to go to God first, as he intended, would I believe be life changing. And that's a change I want.
